Mythberg Films is a feature and television film-production company based in Budapest, Hungary. Besides its in-house developed majority films, the company is very much focusing on minority international co-productions as well.
By having a well-developed company structure Mythberg Films has successfully produced or co-produced more than a dozen cinema and TV-movies in the past decade.
In the last two years the company has produced (co-produced) five (5) cinema features with the total budget of over 11m €. All projects were finalized on a successful legal and financial basis, using the most benefit of the Hungarian tax-rebate system (around 1m€ in total) and other local and international financing sources.
Over its more than a decade existence, Mythberg Films has become a trustable and reliable company known for its experienced and friendly team, for its creative involvement in the projects and most importantly for its professional production management with legal and financial advisors and partners attached with which the company can very cost-effectively handle productions and solve different matters for the benefit of partners and financiers.

 

 

Projects in development

 

  • a film titled “Amrita” is about the short but very intensive life of painter Amrita Sher-Gil, a Hungarian born (1913) half Jewish half Indian woman who became India’s first contemporary artist after she died in 1944. A possible French-UK-Indian-Hungarian co-production. Status: research, developing treatment;
  • The Shaman’; a mystical thriller set in contemporary Canada and ancient China (by flashbacks), about a cursed locket which opens a gateway for an evil spirit to kill in a dragon’s shape, led by a forever living witch. A Canadian-Chinese university student girl must defeat the evil by discovering a superpower in herself. A possible 3D movie. Status: novel optioned, script-development.

  • ‘Horthy’; a new film by renowned Hungarian director Márta Mészáros (Diary I-II-III; The Unburied Man –Imre Nagy); an Austrian-Hungarian (possible German) feature about one of Hungary’s most controversial historical-political figure Miklós Horthy, who was the governor of the Hungarian Kingdom from 1919 ‘till the end of the 2ndWW. The film is based on his two meetings with his son (who returned from deathcamp Mauthausen), first in Horthy’s cell in Nuremberg and later their second meeting in a Portugal seaside villa.

  • “The four rascals” is an adventure movie set in the early 17th century in the north part of the apart Hungarian Kingdom. A gang of robbers are permanently attacking villagers who decide to call ‘affordable’ soldiers from the Turkish war to help them to defend themselves and a secret treasure. The old soldiers of different origins (German, Polish, Turkish, Hungarian) decide to go for their possible reward and battle the gang…

Projects in pre-production

  • Robert Pejo’s (pls. see previous title: Kameramörder) new feature film-project titled: É DÁR (Fear). A contemporary drama-thriller set in the Eastern part of Hungary. The plot is a ‘war’ between a Hungarian family and circle of friends and a small gypsy family which leads to a tragic ending, driven by racist hatred. Written by Irish play- and scriptwriter Terry Mcmahon, an international co-production. World-sales LoI by The Yellow Affair. Status: still looking for co-production partners, investors

Projects in production

  • Writer/director Momcilo Mrdakovic’s Serbian black comedy, titled “Mamarosh” , produced by Corazon International, Hamburg, Paprika Film, Belgrade and Mythberg Films. The film is backed by Wild Bunch as international sales agent and investor. It is presently shooting in New York.

 

Completed films

  • “Children of the Green Dragon” by director Bence Miklauzic. A story involving a Chinese warehouse-keeper and a Hungarian real-estate agent, a high quality ‘feel-good’ movie in Hungarian and Mandarin language. World premier was at Pusan (South-Korea) Filmfestival in competition at Flashforward section. European premiere was at Warsaw IFF, in competition at 1st-2nd feature films’ section.

  • ‘Maybe in an other life…’ , by Elisabeth Sharang, an Austrian-Hungarian-German co-production (EPO-film Vienna, Mythberg, Filmline Munich) based on real life events at the end of second world war.

  • The “Essential Killing” by Jerzy Skolimowski, starring Vincent Gallo, a Polish (Skopia Film) Irish (Element Pictures) Norway (Cylinder) and Mythberg Films co-production, presented by Jeremy Thomas, world sales: Hanway Films. World premiere was at Venice International Film Festival, 2010; awards: Jury special prize, and Best Actor for Vincent Gallo.

  • So much for Justice” (Oda az igazság) was the opening film of the 41th Hungarian Film Week, co-produced by EPO-film Vienna and Pleasnar Film, Warsaw, directed by one of Hungary’s most renowned director’s, Miklós Jancsó. In competition at Cairo Film Festival, 2010

  • In 2009-10 Mythberg Films’ co-produced with Austrian LOTUS Film and Swiss Cobra Film a new film by Robert Adrian Pejo titled: “Kameramörder”, won an ex-aequo ‘Best Director’s prize at the 41th Hungarian Film Week and was at Moscow, Karlovy Vary, Montreal, Warsaw etc. festivals mainly in the competition sections.

  • In 2006/07 Mythberg Films produced a television film by György Molnár, “Tavasz, Nyár, Ősz” (Spring, Summer, Autumn) in co-production with the Hungarian Television. The same years the company was also involved in the documentary film by Barbara Puskás by EPO-film titled ‘Hallo’, based on the life of Tivadar Puskás, the inventor of the telephone center.

  • In 2004 an Austrian-Hungarian-Polish co-production was completed with Austrian EPO-Film and Polish Apple Film directed by Michael Kreihsl, titled “My Father, my wif and, my lover….” (Received the main prize at Biarritz International Television Film Festival) and Austrian Romy Award.

  • In 2003 Péter Gothár’s new feature in Mythberg’s production was Hungarian Beauty, won the Grand Prize of the Jury at the 34th Hungarian Film Week.

  • In 2001 in co-production with Duna-Television “Passport”, directed by Péter Gothár was produced by the company. ‘Passport’ was selected to more than 50 festivals, won three major awards and was nominated for two European Film Academy awards (Best Director 2001, Best Cinematographer 2001).

  • 000, Mythberg Films produced the television film “A leghidegebb éjszaka” (The Coldest Night)  for the Hungarian Television, as a Christmas prime time tv-film on MTV Channel 2.
